Amplifer options exist which cover the majority of any measurement requirement. Whether it be specific inputs such as ICP or to provide the flexibility to allow multiple input types there is an amplifier for you. The most common amplifier card is the UNI-8 8 channel universal amplifer which enables Voltage, current, thermocouple, ICP, charge and strain gauges to be connected. Some input types such as charge and ICP require a special input plug to complete the signal conditioing for that particular transducer type. Once the mainframe size has been selected, 4, 8 or 16 then any combination of amplifiers can be plugged in as long as the number of slots is not exceeded. Each amplifier has a "number of slots" value. The advantage of this system is that multiple numbers of amaplifiers can be purchased and the unit configured for the particular job required.
